u can say metallica is heavy metal buut its thrash metal in the heavy metal concept and there are much other sub genres and its important because all sub genres sounds different thats why they have a specific name for all them!

lol man timsterdude101 is right! of course there r sub genres and much people care about it because it really changes the music haha killswitch is metalcore and so are many other bands as pantara is thrash like many other bands, and there are not trillion of sub genres man lol u should get information about it, its interesant and cool if u like metal
