What should I major in to have a career in music?

February 212010

Not to play/teach music, obviously I would major in music for that, but to work for a record label/production studio, or something along those lines.

Sounds like you are interested in the business side of the music industry rather that making the music yourself. So..Business or production/communications.

I’m a music major and remember no matter what branch you chose, you will have to AUDITION, go in on a major instrument, do applied lessons, numerous ensemble hours and so on.

Usually the people who want to work in that setting major in music technology. There are music production majors but trying to find a school that offers it, is extremely difficult. Usually with music production you have to minor in business as well.
