i would classify myself as a musician at the moment i am putting together a couple of covers that i have done and also some of my originals.i am a massive fan of all types of music but i am an obsessive fan of lady sovereigns. i was watching one of her interviews and she said she has been looking for people to sign to her new label. i think that this is the perfect idea for me so i would like to send her some of my stuff.
the only thing is i have no idea how to get them to her.i would really appreciate it if someone could help me!

Have the major multinational record companies had a positive or negative effect on popular music?

I would say positive because they kinda made the musicians make music even when they were lazy with their contracts which turned out good in alot of cases. But now is the age of the internet things change dramatically. And everyone thinks that everything they watch and download is only for their eyes but their wrong. Pretty soon every single site that you go to will be documented with your ip address. There are two outcomes that we will see. The corporate outcome where they get there way being peeping toms into what you download and force you to pay for the downloaded material or go to jail OR the people way and media will just flow free like it has been. I think its going to go corporate they have the technology and the money and they’re just to greedy to let us get what they could be making money on for free.
So the answer to your question has two parts.(for todays record companies)
For the musicians it’s positive because they continue to make money on record sales.
For the people negative because they sue middle class people for millions of dollars to set an example that no-one is paying attention to. Ending result, a few unlucky peoples lives are ruined and the companies still aren’t satisfied.

When will it end and how? One day everything will be free…maybe not in our lifetimes but it will happen and when it does, insteadseparaterate civilizations dominating one another for resources, we will live in a global civilization only striving to keep mother earth and its occupants alive.

What equipment would i need to create my own vinyl records? I want to put my music on 45′ records.?

I want to be able to create my own music, then record it onto my own vinyl record. What is the best equipment i can get to do so?
I am running windows xp on this computer, it is late model with all that is required to run needy applications. I need to find out software/hardware.. in particular the hardware side of things. I think they used to be called a ‘vinyl press or vinyl recoder’. Any brands, Any price im not phased. But it must be able to ‘record records’ lol

It depends on what kind of pc you got do you got windows, mac or …/ you will have to go on google and look for one with ur pc sysytrem

California college for business and music production (education to start a record label)?

I am a high school junior looking at colleges. I know that when I’m done with schooling im going to start a record label. I’m looking for a school that would have a major in business (possibly music business, but almost no schools have that) and a minor in music production. know of any good schools?

I agree with Chuckles. I took classes at Foothill College in California. It was the first school in the country to teach pro tools, and pro tools is what most studio’s use now. I took music business 101, pro tools 101, and mixing and mastering. I now pay someone else to mix and master my songs because I learned how but its still difficult to me. I learned how to produce songs on my own, long before I ever took classes, and I only use pro tools for recording vocals, so majority of the stuff I use today I learned on my own, the classes werent a complete waste of time, I learned a few things, but you can learn so much more just by watching a few tutorials or picking up a few books. If an artist needs a producer, they arent going to sit there and pass up on someone who has good music if they dont have a degree. They dont care about the degree, they just care about the sound. Pro Tools will cost you about $2,500, FL Studio will cost you about $300. To record vocals I recommend pro tools, to produce music from scratch, I recommend FL Studio. Just get a fast computer to handle all the fx you will be using. I have a musicxpc professional, it cost me about $2,600. But this was years ago and theres plenty of fast computers now for much cheaper. Thats really all you need, and some good studio monitors (About $1000).

What is the best way to record music?

I dont plan on being a musician. I just want to make some songs for fun. I want to be able to import the instumental (just the beat) and sing, rap, talk or whatever, over the music. Basically kareoke, but able to record as well. I have nero, and acess to other programs. Any suggestions would help.

Apple’s Garage Band software is great for this. It comes with hundreds of intrumental or percussion loops, plus it allows you to import other tracks and record live over them.

How can I receive promo CDs?

As a hobby, I collect music from certain artists. I buy any album, single, EP, vinyl, etc.

I also collect promotional material. Unfortunately, to obtain these, I have to resort to eBay. Does anyone know a way I could receive promo CDs directly from labels (I’m really shooting for Warner Bros. Records) I hate having to buy these on eBay where they say "not to be sold"

Almost any promo CDs will have the "not to be sold" tag on them because they are just that, promo CDs. They are commonly distributed to radio stations for use on the airwaves. You could approach your local stations and see if they receive multiple copies of promos and maybe work out some kind of arrangement with them. I must warn you, however, you may not reproduce or play them in public unless you pay royalties to the producers of such
cds.
