Is it a realistic goal to look for a record deal…..?
February 192010
“EMI (record label) currently has 14,425 artists on its roster… EMI tried to break 1,300 artists globally in 2007… Only 3% of the 14,425 artists are currently profitable… The roster is too large and the number of album releases are too many, to apply proper focus or expertise… Sadly, between 1,500 and 2,000 jobs will have to go.”
With the decrease in music sales, is it worth it to go after a record deal???
What would be the alternative…??
this is all regarding if you want to make music for a living
im going to say the Internet is the best way to get your music out there. really why do you need a record label anymore. most record labels dont give you very much creative freedom and just want you to make them money. i would rather make myself money and go the independent route.

Probably not. Unless you think you really got skills. Either way, a major would rip you off.
Lol, those kids who come here lookin for a deal.
I think what guerilla means is Soulja Boy is a one hit wonder, and he’ll disappear like Jibbs.
Hehe, the only alternative I know would be hustlin your music on the streets, battles, mixtapes, etc.

Not right away. You need to build your buzz up heavily online first, make your presence known. Myspace maybe? But once you get many loyal fans and have your music working for you, then you can think about a deal.

rap is competition, those who are the best rise to the top, the rest disappear and thats how it goes. Soulja boy is an acception.

No. Unless you’re really talented. But even then you’ll get screwed over, its about who you know nowadays. Besides there’s 843547365743564354365346435743 people out there trying to make it into the industry. Plus you got another 35647365435435764365 net rappers, who hang around on forums where members are too p*ssy to tell em that they sound queer. And then when someone finally does, they cry like the little homos that they are. My point = if you think you’re good, there’s someone out there better than you whose in exactly the same position you’re in. Too much supply not enough demand.
I guess alternative = a drunk. Because thats what phailed artists are.

LOL at the dude’s answers above me.
He is correct, don’t look for a deal unless you can sell your own stuff online or on the corners. If you can’t get your neighborhood to buy your music why should a record company invest in you.
Record companies are basically loan sharks anyway, you’ll get rich, but in the end you end up owing them the money.
