Can someone help provide me with some Youtube WMG info?
October 282010
Hello, I know that Warner Music Group has been blocking all of their owned artists and respective songs from Youtube. This was never a problem to me as I hardly found myself ever listening to American music bands. However, recently, Warner Music Group has begun to block famous artists -outside- of their held domains. For example, I found myself looking for some videos on the new Russian Pop band "Serebro" and found that many of their videos were blocked by WMG. Yet Serebro is a project completely backed by Monolit Records, a private recording company based in Russia. WMG should have zero claims on this band as it’s obviously not in their "owned artists" list, yet nearly 90% of all their live performances and all of their English songs are blocked from Youtube. WMG has no claims on the Eurovision Song Contest either, as it’s a European based contest, yet they continue to block videos copyright to the EBU and not WMG…
This is crazy, WMG. You don’t own these bands or even their labels, what the hell are you doing blocking them?
Does WMG even operate in Russia and the Ukraine? Or even Germany? Do they have some sort of flawed system on Youtube that’s blocking videos that they -THINK- are owned by WMG?
Thanks in advance.

@some kid: I’ve seen this list before, and it doesn’t help. As you can see, Russia is clearly -NOT- on the list, so how the hell can WMG have a claim on a -RUSSIAN- band that has played -ONLY- in Russa?

@DenB7: Wrong again, any videos that feature the bands in their Native language go untouched, however in English, they immediately get blocked with a message explicitly saying;
"This video contains content from WMG, who has blocked it in your country on copyright grounds."
The content from this band doesn’t belong to WMG, if it had said "Monolit Records" Instead, then it would make more sense. But until then, WMG is claiming rights to artists they do not own!
WMG is a worldwide company. On their official website you can get info about every country they’re in.
*EDIT*
I suppose it’s possible for a band to be signed to a label in another country. Another explanation could be people flagging these videos and using WMG as the company name. YouTube’s copyright identification system needs a lot of work.
