YouTube users who hate Warner Music Group (WMG) and their copyright claims hate Time Warner too. Hmmmm?

July 152010

Okay, I notice YouTube users who boycott WMG and their music boycott Time Warner too, because they believe they still own said record company, but let’s get some facts straight: Time Warner doesn’t own WMG anymore; they just spun it off into a separate privately-held company six years ago, just to cut debt. They also sold off their book-publishing division four years ago and spun off Time Warner Cable and AOL last year so they’ll become more of an entertainment company consisting of three companies: Turner Broadcasting, Warner Bros., and HBO.

Well, YouTube users hate Time Warner/Warner Bros. because they believe they still own their former music subsidiary which filed the lawsuit against YouTube/Google, but WMG these days is owned by a group of investors instead of Time Warner itself, despite having "Warner" in their name. Heck, even some users boycott Time Warner/Warner Bros. for taking down their TV/movie content.

So, you need to send this information to any YouTube users, but I’m not quite sure. Anyone agree?

P.S. Please, don’t give me any answers like "YouTube sucks ’cause it’s a very childish place" or "Go f**k yourself" or any other crap. Just answer with something unique.

I find it hilarious that these people who are pissed off because their videos were silenced or deleted by copyright claims from WMG or others would choose to boycott them.

That’s totally preposterous! They are going to boycott the producers of the music that they liked well enough to include in their videos. That’s what got them in trouble with YouTube in the first place, their desire to use their favorite Warner Music tracks in their video.

This would be like boycotting Pizza Hut because you like their products enough to want to give it away to everybody. That’s what uploading copyrighted music to YouTube does… it gives the product away for free and denies the makers their profits.

And I don’t care what investors own Warner, etc, the fact is these people are mad because they think that if they posess something (like music) that they can do as they please with it and when it comes to intellectual property and art, that’s just not true. If you buy some music, you are buying the right to listen to it. You have no right to reproduce it or freely distribute it, and uploading it to YouTube is doing both.

If there was a store ( a bakery) in your town that was run by a nice lady and you liked her and you liked her baked goods, would you steal from her? No! If you like the products produced by Warner Music Group, then you shouldn’t steal from them either! Just because they are a big business, doesn’t make stealing from them alright.

LYRICS:
She puts her makeup on
Like graffiti on the walls of the heartland
She’s got her little book of conspiracies
Right in her hand
She is paranoid like
Endangered species headed into extinction
She is one of a kind
She’s the last of the American girls

She wears her overcoat
For the coming of the nuclear winter
She is riding her bike
Like a fugitive of critical mass
She’s on a hunger strike
For the ones who won’t make it for dinner
She makes enough to survive
For a holiday of working class

She’s a runaway of the establishment incorporated.
She won’t cooperate
She’s the last of the American girls

She plays her vinyl records
Singing songs on the even of destruction
She’s a sucker for
All the criminals breaking the laws
She will come in first
For the end of the western civilization
She’s an endless war
Like a hero for the lost cause
Like a hurricane
In the heart of the devastation
She’s a natural disaster
She’s the last of the American girls

She puts her makeup on
Like graffiti on the walls of the heartland
She’s got her little book of conspiracies
Right in her hand
She will come in first
For the end of western civilization
She’s a natural disaster
She’s the last of the American girls
