Do you buy music from artists that isn’t in the mainstream and under RIAA command? If you do support the artist, where do you buy the music from, online or offline?

Bonus: If you can show me the website of your favorite artist, it would make me feel more incline to vote for your answer.

P.S. – Please don’t mention any recording artists that are associated with any of the three major record labels (Sony, WEA, and Universal). Also, the artist don’t have to be singers. They can be comedians and spoken word as well. Also, detailed answers are best, since I love to read what people have to say.

all of the bands on here are awesome, some have reached mainstream, but only briefly. it is a predominately christian music label, but it seems that today’s christian music is way better than anything secular, as they would have to be to fill the gap of promotional power with talent.

According to a release schedule from Universal Music (Nirvana’s record label), the legendary MTV Unplugged concert will finally be released officially on DVD this November.

Currently, the DVD is slated for a worldwide release on November 19 with the US and Canada following November 20.

this is a hypothetical question that im sort of confused on. if person A makes an offer to universal music to sell his record label for $40million. universal mails back a rejection but before it is recieved, universal accepts the offer by phone. what would be the result. would both person A and universal studios have to honor the contract?
i would think neither person A and universal studios can honor the contract because universal studios verbally accepted the offer but with the sum being $40million, the written document would have more authority. am i right?
can either person A or universal studios avoid the contract?

The written rejection would be the document that would be legal in a court of law. A phone call is never admissable. It could be made by anyone representing someone false. In either case, a verbal promise can be denied as ever having been made.

Best case scenario. Universal Music does call and state it wants to accept the offer and asks for time to have it drawn up in writing. The purpose of the phone call is to ask for additional time since a rejection letter has already been mailed/

Person A accepts the verbal offer and gives Universal a set time period to produce the written document.

I’m in Toronto, ON, and — even if this sounds stupid — I need to know how I can contact a record label and get them to listen to a demo DC of mine.

Mail it to them along with a cover letter, if you can include some professional references that would help a lot towards them actually listening to it. If you don’t have a myspace and youtube account, those are very helpful also in getting your music out there. Good luck!!!!
