Backwards Down the Number Line by Phish [The Daily Vinyl music video #29]

July 112010

The Daily Vinyl video #29: “Backwards Down the Number Line” by Phish video. This was filmed in one take (as they usually are) and with very little set-up… or thought as to whether turntables can float. The mermaid was the closest thing I could find to a fish. I would’ve liked to have purchased some real ones for this video, but I really wanted to get this on YouTube the same day of its release. (The LP release of Phish’s 14th studio album “Joy” on 180 gram vinyl was Oct 6, 2009.)

If you dig this, please visit http://www.TheDailyVinyl.com to view other videos, especially those with audio tracks not allowed on YouTube. Also, for your convenience, I have provided links to purchase the featured music, (help support TheDailyVinyl). Did you know that “The Dude” wants to hear about YOUR music memories. Visit http://www.thedailyvinyl.com and share!

How to put music on vinyl?

July 72010

my band is a indie folk band who want to release our upcoming release on CD and vinyl record.
I know how to put music on CD, but how would i come about making our own vinyls?

Very specialized equipment is needed for that. You can’t do it yourself.

There are still companies who will press vinyl records. DiscMakers might be one, but I’m not sure.

Happy Moog – The Four Best Songs from THE HAPPY MOOG!

June 282010

After the success of Walter (now Wendy) Carlos’s 1968 album SWITCHED-ON BACH, the record industry experienced a brief surge of cash-in moog exploitation albums. Some of the best of these include The Moog Machine’s SWITCHED-ON ROCK (Columbia Records), The Electric Concept Orchestra’s MOOG GROOVE (Limelight Records), and THE HAPPY MOOG! (Pickwick Records).

THE HAPPY MOOG! was masterminded by Jean Jacques Perrey and Harry Breuer, both stalwarts of the music industry. Perrey in particular is remembered as an early pioneer of electronica; he’s best known for his 1970 album MOOG INDIGO as well as for his collaborations with Gershon Kingsley.

Here are the best tracks from the Happy Moog album:

1) “Space Express”
2) “Short Circuit”
3) “Paris 2079″
4) “Saturn Ski Jump”

I found my copy of the album at a Goodwill store in Massillon, Ohio. It was fifty cents.
