how do i write songwriter for music artists in a record label?

September 162011

how do i become a songwriter for Music artists?
i have been writing music for 5 years now and my friends see potential in me but do i need to have like experience in this field? if so how would i get this experience? i would like to write music under a music label such as Interscope or Cherrytree. how would i apply for a job as a song writer?

Well first you’ll probably have to go to college and get a degree in songwriting. Assuming you already have a degree, I’d contact a recording label you would like to work for. Usually you can get an internship and work your way up from there.

how much should I charge for a write up of music artist & their record label?

August 112011

I’ve been asked to do a write up for two biography’s of some music artist and a write up for the record label. I’m new to this so I am not sure what I should ask for. I am not new to writing–I write a weekly blog for language and language education. They’re read my work and like my writing style and our confident I can do the job, so what should I ask for?

check here:

I found this (and tons of other good results) by googling, "How much should I charge"

I once translated and was told to charge either $20-30 per hour or per page, can’t remember which…

Good Luck!

how to produce my own record label, music, trademarks, patents, etc?

January 302011

i want to copyright/patent/trademark my own record label,cds,/cd covers

Hi Vertis,

Will you be producing the music of others or only your own music? If you will be producing others music, a trademark will protect the name of your record label. Research before submitting your applicaiton is advisable. This will rule out any potentially problematic marks. Below are some links and books on starting a record label.

Hope that helps and I wish you much success & happiness in all your ventures!

How does an artist on an an independent record Label get his music into the stores?

I would like to contact an A&R rep or someone with a contact in a music label or something close?

January 222011

I’m a 15 year old musician who would like to get some advice as to what those people are looking for in a musician. But instead of asking what you guys think, I would rather prefer with a true person that is somehow involved in any record label.

If you do have any contact here, just send me an email.

Thanks!

If you didn’t want an answer from Yahoo Answers, why did you post a question on Yahoo Answers…? My friend, the "true person", says her label isn’t interested in 15 year olds. You should try Disney.

what college courses would a music producer for a record label need to take?

January 202011

im searching colleges, and im not sure exactly what courses a music producer will need to take.

Well you should probably start with some Music classes: http://www.uscollegesearch.org/music-colleges.html as well as some generic Business classes: http://www.uscollegesearch.org/business-colleges.html You essentially need to know how to run on your own so the more business focused you can be the better. I would also recommend getting in touch with a record/producing company and look into internships and what not. They might have some good advice for getting you started.

Good luck!

What is the difference between a Record Label and a Music Production Co.?

January 102011

Just tryind to establish some understanding on the difference…..sometime I think that they both make and produce music as well as the artist. What part does the label play verses the production?

It boils down to two different dynamics of getting an album on the shelves; the creativity versus business. A production company typically handles the production and mastering of an artists performance (what you hear), while a label handles the distribution, which is he cost of recording the CD and making it, and getting it on the shelves (what you buy). This process has been undercut by the advent of digital downloads, both legal and not (think ITunes and Limewire). While the record companies hate the fact that albums can be downloaded cheaper or even free, this new era gives new opportunities to the smaller, more talented production companies that ate actually trying to make good music. Think about all the ads you see saying digital downloads are evil. Who do you think paid for those? The same goes for video as well.

How do you go about sending out music to record label’s and do you need to copyright it?

January 82011

i don’t know about copyrighting, but you just look up their address on myspace or their website and mail them your demo. sending your demo to the same label twice can be helpful too.

HOw does a Music management/Record Label know if material is solicited before they listen to it?

January 52011

I do a lot of covers of country music and pop/R&B. I was wondering how the material is solicited or how i get my own solicited plus the above following question….Thanks for the answers, if any :( , :)

Solicited material usually gets rejected or trashed. I think you might be thinking of plagarized. Most management & labels (artists too) go to publishing companies libraries and choose their songs. You can put songs on hold or decide to do them right then.
If you want YOUR music to be COVERED you need to submit it to the groups (through the managers,to band members in concert (although this is usually not allowed),through a promoter, through publishing companies…) Post videos on you tube and offer your work to be covered. Just make sure you have copyrights to the songs first.

Best music/record label?

January 12011

Hello there!

For people who really know their music…

I’m looking for a record/music label that suits the type of music I am into which is a total mix. It’s eclectic. I don’t really listen to pop or very commercial music. I need old and new, hip-hip to classical, dub-step to classical to rock, ambient to minimal and classic to hardly heard. Just amazing music and variety.Love the quirky too. Most importantly it has to be high and creative quality.Stuff that makes you go through many emotions when listening to my show…something cathartic too!

I may be asking for a lot but can you recommend any record/music labels that cover my tastes/ideas and that are in London or the U.K?

Many kind thanks in advance…

K

I would TOTALLY ignore the baseless rancor of the previous poster. Obviously he’s incredibly bitter about some perceived lack in his own life. As someone who really knows the BUSINESS, I have a few suggestions and some advice. It’s unclear if you are asking as a listener/seeker of new fodder or as an artist w/ an eclectic style. So the first thing is to clarify exactly what you are after. In all things, an established goal has the best chance of success.

If you were asking as the first, then it’s all research…just keep checking out every online source for music out there and learn to cross reference company credits in Billboard and tracking magazines of that ilk. As an artist, you should just buckle down and really flesh out your style- then slowly include a support structure (band, educated listeners, etc.) and take it out to play.

The important thing is to hone your craft and be the best you can be at it, so you can build a demand for it. Look for other emergent artists that have a likely style that might compliment yours on a bill, to educate listeners to your style.

There are about 80 more steps to gaining the sort of prominence that attracts a record/music label (which I think are more and more obsolete by the day, fyi)…if you are interested in developing as an artist to where you can build your brand and find support for your creative needs, subscribe to our newsletter at www.aj-n-dbs.com and get in the flow of the information you need to have the visibility you want.
