If there’s a lot of illegal music download, why dont Music Labels make their records with different technology?

I mean, cant they just make records not readable to computers?? Or is it just impossible??

If you can hear it you can record it. If you can record it you can post it for download. The only "technology" they could use to keep you from posting rips is "silent music", music you can’t hear. And I don’t think too many people would buy CDs with nothing on them (unless you could write to them).

If I wanted to eventually run and own a music record label, what college would be good for me to go?

Particularily in California

Well, there isn’t a particular college that is going to teach you to how to run/own a music record label but it would probably would be a good idea to study Business/economics with a focus on the entertainment industry….

I would look for schools with good business schools and schools that also focus on the entertainment industry… Im sure there are plenty colleges that you could find in California…

What is a list of careers within a record label? just the music industry in general?

I really love music and want to go into a career with it. However, I’d rather just work with the company than actually be in a band. I would also prefer a career within it that doesn’t require a lot of communication. Please only serious answers.

All jobs require you to communicate.The music industry especially,even the accounting division of record labels communicate.

If you have issues with communication(I did at one time also I hated talking to people-so I know how you feel).Then find a job that requires you to deal with people(Mine was Six Flags Great Adventure).It will force you to be uncomfortable but you’ll grow(Sorta like growing pains they hurt but their necessary).I sure did.I worked my up to a Assistant Supervisor of Concerts/Events-but you have to want to help customers(I did).Good jobs want someone that wants can help the customer/guest.

I want to be a famous singer and i have been writing and learning guitar and singing and i want to send my songs to a record label company.

Ok, yes you need a manager. But, trust me that is only half the story. You don’t need just any manager, you need a manger with the best connections to shop your music around to the right people. Please be careful, a lot of people "think" they are managers but are not. A manager also helps you get shows to perform live so that you can start building an actually fan base. Trust me, there are a lot of singers out there. You need to stand out. If you work on building your music and gaining fans, the more likely a record label may be interested. Music is a business first, labels might be more convinced if they think you can make them money. That is the main purpose of why they sign artist … to make money. Good Luck!

Nope, they won’t.

A record deal is simply a record label offering you there resources so you can make them your money.
however, they aren’t going to give you these resources until they know that there is DEMAND for your music and they know that you are READY.
They want to see that you can handle the industry, they don’t want to TEACH how to play live shows and TEACH you how to write songs – you need to know how to do that already.
Record Labels aren’t your teaachers, they are just your resources.
record labels want artists that are in DEMAND.
what is DEMAND?
when people around the country are asking you to come play live shows in their city
when people are anticipating your new songs and records.

IF you owned a company, would you waste 1 million dollars of your own money on someone who you weren’t quite sure of? OR would use your money on someone you know that would make you back that money FOR SURE.

They want to know, FOR SURE, that if you were to release a record – that people would buy it.
They want to know, FOR SURE, that if you were to play in New York, people would come.

they know all this, by how much demand you have created.

So you need to create some demand.

You need to write your own original songs and play some live shows.
Go to coffee houses, venues, local colleges/universitys. Start making a fan base.
You should also set up social networking sites (like myspace, facebook, youtube) to help you promote yourself and start a fan base.

Continue to play more and more live shows because by doing this your building a fan base, making connections and gaining experience. All things a record label want you to have.

Eventually, (hopefully sooner then later; maybe you even have some now)you will write a couple songs that you guys really enjoy. Go spend some money, and record the songs professionally. Put these songs on your social networking sites and get online music blogs to give them a listen and review.

Sooner or later, you will hit a spot in the local music scene, you’ll get a couple frequent fans and you’ll have a whole bunch of songs and a pretty steady set list. When this happens, get an agent and a manger, they will help expand your band to other cities.

From there, either a record label A&R will notice you and your hype, or you can send demos to the record label and they’ll be able to take you seriously.

How old to be an A&R Scout for a music label?

Im in highschool. After, im gonnna goo to college for music buisness. I want to start as an A&R scout, but I dont know if I need an internship, or previous knowledge? Also, do I have to wait untill Im 18? Any record labels in the Orlando area that might give me this position or an internship?

I can tell you right now…you’re not going to start as an A&R person. You’ll start out sorting demos, filing, making coffee, and other wonderful grunt work.

As far as if you have to wait until you’re 18, it depends on the labor laws in Florida.

You’re best bet it to find a small, independent label and approach them. Let them know that you’re intested in getting into the record industry, and ask them what kind of work you could do for them in return for showing you the ropes.

A major label isn’t going to give you the time of day unless you can show some kind of successful track record with an indie.

Make a video in response to a Cooti kid vid, post it…buy or go down to library and get the billboard magazine that only comes out once a year with Cooti kids manager/lawyers email… I think his first album not that good…

As far as protecting your intellectual property, the following types of intellectual property can be protected by a copyright — the songs, your website content, any promotional material you’d like to publish, photographs of your establishment or your musicians, and so on.

Names and domain names aren’t able to be protected by a copyright, but those are things that can be trademarked. This will give you the exclusive right to use the name of your record label for commercial gain.

As far as patents, I’m not sure what regarding a record label might be eligible for this type of protection — patents are used for inventions and novel new ways of doing something. If you come up with some new method of recording that no one has thought of before, maybe, but it doesn’t sound like you’ll really need to worry about obtaining a patent for anything with what you’re trying to do.
