Is it legal to record music with a recording program?

April 202011

So I have a program on my computer that records all sound made while it’s on. Would it be legal to record music and then change it to an mp3 and listen to it? Or would this fall under the category of an illegal copy?

You didn’t say anything about the music being recorded. Are you referring to, for example, watching a video by a mainstream artist or band that’s on YouTube, recording that, and thereby getting the song? That would be illegal.

If you mean random sounds, video chat you’re participating in, music you create with music software, things like that, that’s perfectly legal.

How to record music playing live on my PC?

How to record music playing live on my PC?
I’m playing this radio station with real underground music that isn’t found on youtube, is there a way I can record it using some program? Thanks.

As I did myself , a music lover , you can download a free sound recorder from cnet , and install it on your computer. It will allow you to record any sound that is playing on your computer as long as you select the correct source.( mic for external or stereomix from your comp). You can even choose the format you want ( mp3 , mp4….) Good luck ! You can contact me if you need more help on that.

Is it possible to record music from a CD to an empty recording cassette using a home Stereo?

April 152011

To be more specific, i want to put music from a CD on to a cassette. (dont ask why, i just do :P ) Using a CD and Cassette player. You know that Record button on the player? I wanna see if I can actually do this. Is it possible?

You should find RCA ‘out’ sockets on your CD player and connect to the ‘in’ sockets on your tape recorder – hit record on the cassette and play on the CD, and away you go.
RCA connectors are usually only provided on ’separate’ cassette recorders – you don’t usually find them on a ‘boom box’

How do I record music from my laptop?

April 132011

I have friends who are able to record music from their home computers using a mic. I have already downloaded a program to record my own music but don’t know what type of mic/equipment I might need for a somewhat decent quality sound. I know its not going to be studio quality sound but I’d like to record some decent sounding material.

It really depends on the quality you’re going for. If you are actually recording yourself singing, you should absolutely get a real microphone. I would suggest going to a Guitar Center or Sam Ash. You can get a functional mic pretty cheap ($40 or so). To do this, you’ll need a digital converter box. Your mic will plug into the box, and the box will plus into your computer via USB. You’ll have to tell your recording software to recognize the USB as the incoming signal you wish to record.

Good luck!

How do I record music from my MIDI keyboard to Logic Express 9?

January 152011

I am trying to record music in real time (i.e. not making clips and dragging them into Logic) with my Yamaha YPG-235 in Logic 9. My computer recognizes it via USB, and it also recognizes that notes are being played on the keyboard in Logic, but I am stumped as to how to record songs that I am playing on my keyboard. How can I configure Logic to record notes played on my MIDI keyboard?

Any programs that can make music, record and distort your voice?

January 122011

hey just wondering if there is any good programs for making your own music, also being able to record instruments and singing, also being able to have voice features to distort your voice kinda like jullian casablancas from the strokes?

Try using Audacity! it is free to download and Voila!
My cousin makes a lot of beats and instrumental compositions with audacity alone. Check out the "newgrounds" website, it also has tutorials and other peoples compositions.
Audacity can edit voices, compose beats, musicals, record, and distort anything really.

Good thing is that it is FREE, so even you are not satisfied with it, you can try it before you actually think you may buy a program like others are suggesting.

I also heard "Reaper" is a good program, but I haven’t used it before, i’ll just still to Audacity. Just give both a try and see what you like best.

A certain major to get a music record label internship?

December 302010

All of the internships I’ve looked at are basically for those majoring in business, management, marketing.. And any major related to music, really. Can someone with a different major (biology) from the ones above get an internship for a record label? Does it really matter what you major in, or is it the fact that you’re in college that really matters?

Thanks for your help :)

careers.scienceontheweb.net – I found such internship info here. It has lots of internships, job openings and scolarships for college students.

I want to record music inexpensively from the convenience of my home?

December 122010

I really want to be able to record my music onto my computer with some sort of program?
I have an acoustic electric guitar if that helps.
What exactly do I need?

You’ll need an audio interface and recording software. There’s a ton of choices out there. If you pick up a reasonably cheap interface, you can get a decent sound and it should come with software. I personally prefer Ableton and there lite versions that come with interfaces fo a reasonable price that will give you a discount when you decide to upgrade to get more features. Able ton has the best tutorials to me since they are right on screen as you go. The lite version has some limitations, but has a lot of things you will want to make a good recording. Here is a link to an interface that includes an Ableton live lite program: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001EHWD0I/ref=pd_lpo_k2_dp_sr_3?pf_rd_p=486539851&pf_rd_s=lpo-top-stripe-1&pf_rd_t=201&pf_rd_i=B000BP5QG2&pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_r=1E1JKYCMN1C7TW36QZAX
